NIAGARA REGION:ONTARIO

The mandate of the Niagara Region Sexual Assault Response Team is The Betterment of Services for Victims. Using what they believe to be a best practices approach and model, the team is committed to providing better services to survivors of sexual violence. In the beginning each team focused on learning about all of the different organizations: how they worked, what their philosophies, objectives and goals were. As a result, they were able to establish common goals.

Their team approach is based on three pillars:

Be consistent – identify the different responsibilities and roles in sexual assault cases, and approach every case with a specific purpose that provides consistency in carrying out the duties associated with responding to a sexual assault.

Offer comprehensive service and care – A collaborative approach allows the team to evolve and continually improve on individual roles. As a result the team can more effectively respond to identified gaps in service provision.

Provide a knowledgeable response – By building on individual wisdom and using one another as resources for information and problem solving, the team has a solid base of expertise to work from.

By promoting respect for the diversity of the different participants, and an environment for attendees to expand & share their knowledge and to collaborate on best practices. The event, which was attended by 250 professionals, was an excellent venue for sharing information on the latest trends and technologies in data collection in use in Canada and the United State.
